The Legend: The Greek name for the personification of the Earth itself. The great mother of us all, she was one of the first primordial deities to spring from Chaos. She gave birth to Ouranos *Roman: Uranus* (the starry sky) and Pontus (the boundless sea). She is the Earth Mother and Ouranos was Father Sky. They had twelve children (the Titans) and six monsters (three cyclopes *each having one eye and very gifted smiths* and three 50 headed hundred-handed Hecatonchires *personifying natural disasters*). When Ouranos imprisoned the “monsters” in Tartarus, Gaia plotted revenge; leading eventually to Ouranos’ overthrow and the Titans ruling the universe. When Cronus imprisoned them back in Tartarus ( after they helped him defeat his father), she convinced Rhea to hide Zeus on the island of Crete and helped him overthrow his father Cronus and the Titans, with the help of both the Cyclopes and Hecatonchires. Gaia loves all her children deeply; but when they are wicked she will punish them. She is Mother Nature, and not to be trifled with and though she is loving and life-giving she can be equally devastating and has a dark aspect.
The Fragrance: Light and citric with tender new blossoms and earthy flowers, this perfume opens like Spring personified, being at once verdant and lush, yet light and ephemeral. The young maid of spring dances barefoot in a sunny meadow with abandon and sheer delight. As it progresses, it becomes more mature and flowery, yet retains its bright disposition. Here the archetypes of the Mother and the Wife, with her womanhood exalted and her joyous heart unbound. Sensual rose, jasmine, ylang and orange flower kissed with fuzzy mimosa tease, tickle and embrace you. A finish that hints at the darker side of Mother Earth is composed of deep green tones of pine needles, linden absolute and warm thick flower resin. Animalic accents of Africa stone and ambergris give it an earthy edge without tarnishing its beauty. A scent for the lovers of green and growing things, a perfume for ancient souls who are eternally youthful in their outlook.
